Inde du Nord. Raga Rageshvari - Raga Sohini - Pahadi Dhun

Dans cet enregistrement, l’un des tout premiers de l’importante discographie du maître du santur, Shivkumar Sharma donne déjà la pleine mesure de son talent : une remarquable inspiration faite de subtilité mélodique et de vivacité rythmique. 

Shivkumar Sharma [1938-2022], est celui à qui l’on doit, dans une large mesure, l’introduction du santur – un instrument de musique populaire très répandu au Cachemire – dans la musique classique. Il reçut de son père une double formation musicale en tabla et santur, et son épanouissement comme virtuose a été extraordinairement rapide. 
Cette nouvelle édition d’un disque paru il y a plus d’un demi-siècle se veut un hommage à ce musicien récemment disparu, qui, à la suite de la génération d’artistes tels Vilayat Khan, Ali Akbar Khan et Ravi Shankar, a su exposer de la plus brillante manière une autre facette de la musique classique de l’Inde du Nord. 

L'accompagnement au tabla est assuré par Kashinath Mishra [1937], un disciple de feu Pandit Anokhelal Mishra de Bénarès.

North India. Shivkumar Sharma. Santur

In this recording, one of the very first in the santur master's extensive discography, Shivkumar Sharma already shows the full extent of his talent: a remarkable inspiration made up of melodic subtlety and rhythmic liveliness. 

Shivkumar Sharma [1938-2022] is largely responsible for introducing the santur –a musical instrument for folk music widely used in Kashmir– into classical music. He received dual musical training in tabla and santur from his father, and his development as a virtuoso was extraordinarily fast. 
This new edition of a disc released over half a century ago is a tribute to this musician, who recently passed away and who, following in the footsteps of a generation of artists such as Vilayat Khan, Ali Akbar Khan and Ravi Shankar, brilliantly exposed another facet of North Indian classical music. 

The tabla accompaniment is provided by Kashinath Mishra [1937], a disciple of the late Pandit Anokhelal Mishra from Benares.
